Luke Bryan Jokes a 'Lot of Meat Back There' Saved Him During Concert Fall
Luke Bryan is saying his extra weight is the reason he avoided serious injury after a concert fall this weekend.
"Not sure if it was a phone or a wet spot… but when I landed, the first thing I bumped into was a phone," Bryan, 47, told reporters on Monday.
When asked about any injuries, Bryan joked, "Hey, I got a lot of meat back there.”
Videos from his Vancouver show captured Bryan abruptly falling backwards after stepping on a fan's phone.
The singer started laughing as he sat up and held the phone up for the crowd to see.
"Wait a minute. Did anyone catch that?" Bryan asked the audience as he checked himself for any problems. "No worries. My lawyer might be in touch."
He then threw the phone back before asking if anyone filmed his fall. "You're Snapchatting! You can't record this!" he said to an audience member. "Oh, yes! Alright, here we go again. There I am, there we go ... that's it! This is going everywhere, alright, This is viral, alright, this is viral.”
Bryan also laughed off the now-famous slip during the American Idol episode on Sunday. Host Ryan Seacrest brought it up.
"Just checking to make sure you're okay, Luke?" Seacrest, 49, joked. "You seemed fine at the beginning of the show. Any bumps or bruises?"
After pretending he didn't know what Seacrest was talking about, the singer eventually gave an update after Seacrest showed the clip, which Bryan called "a classic goof-up."
"I'm doing great!" he added. "It was actually the best part of the night."
Bryan’s Canadian leg of his Mind of a Country Boy Tour is set to wrap up on Thursday, April 25.. The country star will hit the road again in June, starting in Jacksonville, Florida.
In between tour stops, fans can catch Bryan on American Idol, where he's been a judge with Katy Perry and Lionel Richie since 2018.
While Perry, 39, announced in February that this season would likely be her last, Bryan said he wasn't surprised.
"I heard rumors she was thinking about it — it wasn't a big shock," he told a music news outlet earlier this month. "I think she might have gotten caught up in the moment and maybe said she was done with [host Jimmy] Kimmel."
And while Perry thinks rapper Jelly Roll would be a good replacement, Bryan told reporters he couldn't say who he'd like to see on the judging panel next.
“Anybody would be great,” he shared.
